Hitting the wall…..

It happens so rarely, but today I hit the wall ~ of boredom.   We’d only run about 50 minutes (of a 2 hour run) and I was ready to poke my eye out with a hot stick.   I tried cranking the tunes.  I tried to zone out.  I tried to count the street lamps.  I tried being grateful for the sun and the beautiful day it was turning out to be…   Nothing.  Nada.  None of the ‘techniques’ worked.

So I just kept running.   Sometimes, that’s all there is to do.

It IS a gorgeous day here though….   yeah!  :-)

What not to wear…at the gym

Slow night at the gym… so I’m glad they have ‘cardio TV’ hooked up! I caught up on an entire episode of ‘What not to wear!’… Apparently A-line skirts are ‘the’ way to steer the eye away from butts & hips. Good to know! :-)

Can ‘napping’ be an exercise?

Since the holidays, I’ve been pondering virtues of ‘the nap’.   Even while there are many days I would looooove to take one, there is a part of me that just won’t surrender.  I’ve been a person who bought into: Too much to do.  (And the twisted version: I haven’t done enough so I don’t deserve a nap.   I don’t want to be known as a person who takes naps.  Do naps and Bon-Bons go together?)  Blah. Blah. Blah.

But yesterday, I took one.  And it was delicious.

Better yet - I took one INSTEAD of going to the gym!  **(Shock! Gasp!)  And it was still delicious.  So… I think I’d like to learn more about the VIRTUES of napping.    And, in that vein, I’m going to attempt to add it as a category on my Pie Chart….  Let’s see how many minutes I spend ‘napping’ in 2008.

NOTE:   Nap time does not include the normal sleep I would get in the wee hours….

The USPS approach

How does it go?  “Through rain and ice and sleet and snow….?”  Is that the mantra for mail-people?   No matter the weather, your mail WILL get to you….. etc, etc.    Well, that was this morning’s run.   We had it all… rain and ice and sleet and snow.   The upside is it was a short fast (okay, fast for ME) run…..

And, dare I say?   It actually felt goooooood.   :-)  On a ‘training tip’ note, the icey streets made me notice my core muscles.  I had to pay extra attention to my core because I didn’t know if my footing was going to hold.  Who knew!?

PS>  Day 2 of 2 for adding meditation to my morning ritual!  WooHOOO!

My “Home” Office

Yes! Today I am reminded of the many PERKS of working from a home office.  I slept in a smidge this morning so never made it to the gym for my planned workout….  I have a full work-day so I wasn’t sure I would get a sweat in…  but then I remembered a picture posted on this site a few months ago (I think it was Brad?) of a classic multi-tasker who set up his laptop on a 2×4 across his roadbike - which was on his wind trainer.    VOILA!   The perfect solution!   Soooo -I donned my “work clothes” (bike shorts, a quick-dry t-shirt, and my bike shoes!).   While I was reading through documents and watching a little work-related video on my laptop, I was pedaling along quite happily!     Now I have to return the gear to the garage, but it’s a small price to pay for having it all!     PLUS I get to add another color to my Pie Chart!

 WooHOO!

All bundled up…for sun!

Yeeps!  It was snowing when we left for our long run today.  We were dressed to the nines!  However, by the time we hit mile 2, the clouds broke and it ended up being sunny!   Where do you PUT all those layers that come off at mile 4…..mile 6…. mile 9……..?????  Such a conundrum!

The sun was enticing enough to encourage us to do more than planned today.  (Usually we find ourselves rationalizing why it’s okay to cut a few minutes here and there!)  :-)   The plan called for 1hour+45minutes but it was so beautiful outside, we added Green Lake for an easy 20 more minutes.  Yeah!

I love Sundays!
