…you make LEMONADE!!
The duvet and pillow felt reeeally good this morning. And yet - I talked myself into getting up to go for a swim. Donned the suit and drove all the way to the gym. That’s when I realized I’d forgotten my bag, my cap and my goggles. Hmmm…. a sure sign that I wasn’t supposed to swim today. I did not bring my iPod either - so I quickly ruled out doing something else that required running or riding or ‘ellipting’ in one spot. I’m heading to Alaska at noon so I didn’t have much time to work out… What to do? What to do? Perhaps this was an even bigger sign to take today off.
However - my drive home includes a reeeeally beeeeeg hill. And I remembered that I’ll be sitting for a very long time (3.5 hour flight + 2 hour drive)… The combination of which sparked some inspiration. I pulled over to the side of the road. Runners? Check. Semi-warm fleece jacket? Check. What else did I need?
Nada!
So I squeezed in a juicy hill power walk! The sun was peeking through the clouds and I could see my breath.
A sweet lemonade way to start the day!

When I grow up, I’m going to run away and join the circus. Not just any circus - Cirque du Soleil! I am a Cirque-JUNKIE! I saw my first Cirque when I was just a wee lass still living in Canada - before they went global (aka Vegas!). I was hooked. It is a FEAST for the senses. I need a “Cirque Fix” at least once per year - or more! The beauty fills my heart. The music moves me beyond words. And the artists inspire me with their sinewy, perfect balance of brute strength, flexibility and grace. They inspire me want to be a better athlete.
We saw Corteo last night. Fantastic.
For just one night, I dream of being in a Cirque show.

Our version of the ‘Progressive Dinner’…..
It’s the same idea - A group of friends travel from location to location (often each others’ homes), eating a different course of the meal at each stop. However, the Triathlete’s Progressive Breakfast has one main difference: We use the idea of ‘progressive’ literally. We don’t really stop to eat. We eat as we go, often one-handed and in small bites. :-).
Course 1: Oatmeal served warm with bananas and brown sugar, hot coffee, large glass of water. Can be eaten in the car with the bikes on top on the way to the meeting spot on the Burke-Gilman Trail.
Course 2: Gatorade or electrolyte elixir of your choice. Be sure it’s an excellent vintage! Consumed ‘progressively’ as required - much as a beer or wine glass would be nursed in a progressive dinner. Cheers!
Course 3: Bugs. Yes, bugs. These are handy protein snacks that are also easy to eat! Just open your mouth to breath and in they go. Bug trapping is enhanced if you wear lip balm. The little critters get stuck in the goo to save for later. This course is consumed on the part of the trail that runs along side Sammamish Slough.
Course 4: Shot Blox. Preferrably Lemon-Lime flavor. 3 eaten at the Marymoor Turnaround, 3 more on the way back. Followed with a rowdy shot of gatorade or water. Hoo-ahhh!
Course 5: DESSERT! (Yes, triathletes have dessert for BREAKFAST! Yeha!) GU! Plain - or if you are feeling festive, we also have Mint-Chocolate! Excellent around the holiday season!
Course 6: Transition to the Run…. we recommend taking a rest from eating on the run. Use this time to socialize and take in the scenery. After all, running with your mouth full is bad manners. You may, from time to time, sip your elixir of choice. Social drinking is encouraged!
Course 7: Post-Brick Snack: Chocolate Milk, served ice cold, consumed after the bike is back on the car, the legs are stretched out - and we are on our way home. Yum!
Everyone is welcome!

If you were in Seattle yesterday, you would have seen a bustle of limosines driving rampantly around town with different colored flags waving proudly. You would have seen a crazy group of people running in and out of the limo at various locations (the car often parked in precarious spots!)
I’m speaking at a conference this week in downtown Seattle. The group is an ENERGETIC and fun bunch. They invited me to join a team for their ‘adventure event’ - Scavenger Hunting around Seattle. WAHOO! (Who KNEW Bruce AND Brandon Lee were buried here? In the same cemetary as Curt Kobain, no less.)
This group knows how to do up a scavenger hunt RIGHT! While there was definitely some cardio involved, our primary mode du transport was a limosine! with a professional driver! Oh yeah! Our team was called the Pirates because our limo had the black (and ominous! flag.) At each stop we had to take a picture with each of our team members in it. We found the Jimmi Hendrix statue, the Fishermen’s Monument, the statue of Lenin (and the perennial Rocket in Fremont.) We got ooged out by the Troll…. and we sang “On top of Spaghetti” at the top of our lungs in the car! (We were supposed to do it in front of, you guessed it, Ye Old Spaghetti Factory however we ran out of time to hit that stop.) (Would anyone be shocked to learn that I remembered all the lyrics without the song sheet? Not!)
The classics were included - Pike Place Fish Market, the Pig, the Firemen in Pioneer Square…….. but there were several stops that I’ve never been….(and I’ve lived here for 11 years!)
What a GREAT way to see the city!!! Especially since its my OWN!!!

My hubster & I got “Intention Cards” for Christmas - a deck of cards with words of wisdom to set your intention for the day. I’ve developed a habit of pulling a card almost every day. The universe is a wondrous thing. The card I pull is never, ever an accident. On the days I was feeling squishy and fat - my card was titled something like ‘Optimize your Health’….The next day my card title said ‘Avoid low-energy substances’. On days where I was worried about not delivering for a client, my card said ‘ Release Others Expectations’. The intention card says exactly the perfect thing…every time. This week is probably the most stressful week I’ve had in a long time. My mind is doing its own workout to stay in the moment, resisting the urge to jump ahead to the million things I have to do (and the high stakes coming to a head this week.) Today’s intention card said ‘meditate regularly’. I’ve never pulled this card before. No accident.
Though I do enjoy checking my horoscope on occasion, the cards are different. They are a bit woo-woo. And, they make sense. Without looking I pull the card that feels just right.
Words are a powerful force.
And, a little woo-woo is good for the soul.

Woke up to SNOW….lots of snow… Poor tulips covered in snow. Got dressed to head to the gym. Drove half way to the gym… Then, in the spur of the moment, the hubster turned the truck around and said, ‘Let’s run the trail instead!’ WooHOOOO!
Good thing I have not packed away the winter sweat wear! Too fun!

The count-down clocks on my blog have a new function! Counting down the sleeps until we are off to Hawaii! Alooooooooooooooha! It’s ’sort of’ sweat365 related. Our annual pilgrimage to the Ironman-of-all-Ironman courses, our morning runs along Ali’i Drive, our swims in the ocean (with turtles & manta rays, of course)……….will all be logged here. Depending on our decision to do a Half or an Olympic this year, we may even visit our friends at HP Bikeworks and ride a few days.
It reminds me that I’ve also been meaning to log my nap time….(though I’ve not napped since the last time when I decided it should be counted as an exercise.) I wonder if I could also count the minutes I spend sipping fruity drinks? (They are rich in Vitamin C, you know!) Or, would that be logged in ounces?? Hmmmm……………….. Can’t wait!
Mahalo!
