In fact, I’m a big fan! Perhaps that is why I may be prone to noticing these things? On my way to drop off Ruby Suby at the car hospital - I passed a woman at a bus stop flossing her teeth. Now, I know how frustrating it can be to have something stuck in there. At times I myself have turned my head away to see if I can pry out the culprit bits. When done discreetly, many people won’t even notice. However, there was nothing subtle or discreet about this flossing customer of public transit. It was the full body, elbows up, nose wrinkled, eyes squinting to the sky kind of flossing.
For a moment I thought to myself that perhaps there could be a better time or place for this act of self-care.
But then I thought…….no……….you go sister! You get right in there!
And then, smile pretty all day! There is nothing that makes people’s day more than a bright, sincere, shiny smile. So - you do whatever you need to do to make sure those teeth are pearly white & healthy!

For the first time in eons, the bikes were busy this morning. So, no brick. Oh well, had a decent 35 min run instead. Finished up with 10 minutes of sprints and 10 more minutes on the elliptical thingy. I’ll add the elliptical as a separate entry & count it as ‘cardio’.
BRAD, Oh Brad………… when will we be able to log multiple entries for one day on one screen???

Got some cool news today! A kid I’ve known since he was 4 just qualified for the Canadian Olympic team going to Beijing! Wahooo! Drew Christensen is a 17 year old swimmer who was born without radii. (The lower-arm bone that runs on the thumb side.) As a young kid, he also didn’t have thumbs so underwent many surgeries to move his forefinger to the thumb position so he would have opposition. (Ironic medicine: His hand surgeon was Dr. Groper!) His mom put he & his twin sister into swimming when they were little - and he’s grown up as any kid would. Now, he is a carded amateur athlete for Canada - having traveled the world as a para-lympic swimmer. Root him on!

It’s so different than riding my trusty steed outside…….. but necessary since it’s pouring out again.
Then, stretched like a maniac.

Holey moley…. I just remembered another reason they are called ‘bricks’… because my legs feel like cement on the run. My right foot was numb for the first mile. The ride felt soooo good that I probably rode longer than I should. However it was worth it!!! The first ‘real’ brick (outside where I actually have to change my shoes, take my helmet off, and put my bike away) - DONE!.
Cheers!

Wow. This is a day I will remember always. My friend offered us last minute tickets to attend the Seeds of Compassion event with the Dalai Lama. I’ve read about people’s experience of being around him. No matter their religion or culture, they all say something similar ~ that you can feel his presence. I could feel it. I could feel his humanity and peace. His speech was reverent and relevant and wise.
So many moments moved me.
After the Dalai Lama came in, 1,000 young people from 50 or so countries formed a parade wearing their traditional costumes to open the ceremony. Each group of kids was holding a sign with their country on it. Iran, Tibet, Turkey, - even native Americans in their beautiful feathered headdresses. They were serenaded in by drummers from many different cultures - asian, hispanic, native, and more. Though their drums were different, they all created the most beautiful heartbeat.
I couldn’t help but compare it to the opening ceremonies at the Olympics… and wishing this is what the Olympics were really like. I was there in Calgary when the parade of athletes marched in. Though it was a proud and exciting moment for me as a Calgarian, I can look back and see it differently. For me, the context of the modern-day Olympics seems to be more about politics, my-dad-is-bigger/stronger/faster-than-your-dad, making statements, and peeing on trees.
At the opening ceremony today, it was all about compassion. Every country, every person, was there to come together. Each was proud of their heritage, their history, and their uniqueness, AND they recognized that we are all brothers and sisters.
Though I have understood this premise intellectually - I don’t know if I’ve ever felt it so viscerally as in that moment. We really are more alike than we are different.
I believe webcasts of all the events will be available on the Seeds website. Check it out: www.seedsofcompassion.org

Am in a fog today. Could barely get out of bed. Hit snooze 4 times - then fell back asleep while the radio played. Went to gym late. Didn’t feel like running so walked on the uphill treadmill to warm up…. 30 minutes later, decided a swim was a better idea. Got in pool. Water felt like molasses. I’m sure the pool was on an incline too. Both ways. Then the ‘teen’ team arrived. Watching them flirt was funny, but they are wayyy faster than I. Not interested in swimming circles. Had to bolt for a client call anyway….. Drove to office with wet hair. Nice.
Client call postponed until this afternoon. Of course.
Must re-align intention for today. Pulled “Intention Card”. These are NEVER an accident. Here’s what it said:
Avoid Low-Energy Substances: Alcohol, as well as all drugs - legal or otherwise - lower your body’s energy level and weaken you. In addition, you’ll find that people with similar low energy show up in your life. By retreating from these substances, you can achieve the level of consciousness you crave.
Hmmm…….Isn’t it ironic? Coffee sounds reeeeeeeeeeally yummy right now.
