Lately I’ve been craving salt. What’s that about? I’m about ready to install a salt-lick on my porch. I’ve been satiating the urge with salty popcorn & rice cakes… What do you suppose I’m missing in my diet? Or, what are other (healthy) alternatives to scratch this itch????

A great day!!!!! Team WWPGW&SD (or was that WWPWS&GD??)
was on fire!! We finished the Beat the Bridge race in fine form - smiling all the way. Thanks Peter for pulling us together! Congratulations to all!!!
Epilogue: I then spent the afternoon taking a nap in the sun. Note to self: Wear sunscreen and/or set an alarm! Lobster red isn’t such a fashionable color this season.

My dog Bean is getting old. In the last year she has slowed right now. The former ‘half-marathoner’ is now a 10+ minute miler - at best. We did 4 miles today and she was dragging the last 15 minutes. Poor gal. The grey is coming in on her muzzle, belly and feet. She will be 10 this year. Time flies.
We’ll have to come up with another (softer, kinder) exerise strategy for her because it was just a given that she train with us. Hmmmm…………

I arrived in DC yesterday afternoon (after spending a few hours walking around Colonial Williamsburg, PA… I’m spending the weekend here because I couldn’t bear the thought of 2 coast-to-coast flights within 55 hours of each other. Instead, I decided to engage in some occupational tourism and see DC!! It was a gorgeous afternoon and there were people running everywhere when I drove into town. I was so inspired that I decided to get outside and run myself….. The lovely consierge, Val, drew me a little map that she said was safe. So I tucked it into my iPod case and took off down Conneticut Avenue. My route took me through Georgetown to the Lincoln Memorial (where I ran the steps 2×2!), down Washington Mall past the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Smithsonian, past the WWII Memorial, the Washington Monument, and all the way to the nation’s Capital Building. I ran as many steps here as the nice men in black would allow. Then I wound around the Capital Building to Union Station where I found Massachusetts Ave. I got lost three times (those darned traffic circles!) on my way back - but nice men in suits helped me find my way…..
ONE HOUR AND 33 MINUTES LATER…………….. I made it back to my hotel!!!!!!
Jeepers! I didn’t plan on running that long - but it was a SUPER way to see the city! The monuments were….well, monumental! ;-) I got up today and took an early open-bus tour of a few new places such as Adams Morgan, Arlington National Cemetary and Embassy Row. (I’m still looking for the Canadian Embassy. Maybe I’ll stop by tomorrow!) I got off at Union Station and walked the running-route sights to get an even better look and feel (and take lots of pics! I’ll post on my Facebook when I return.) I also checked out the White House, visited the National Art Gallery and the Natural History Museum. (How cool! All the museums are FREE and they have very clean BATHROOMS! How happy was I?) OH, and I found a Filene’s Basement right around the corner from the White House! How HANDY!! I bet frugal Hill and Chelsea do all their shopping there. (Of note: the ONLY lawn signs for the presidential race I saw were for OBAMA!!!) And on an off-beat thought - I decided to get my haircut this afternoon…. My DC stylist, Michael, strongly suggested I get caramel highlights to ‘bring out my features’. He said, ‘Sweetheart, some of us are just meant to be blondes!’ …. I didn’t get the highlights but I’m seriously considering it ;-) ………. SOOOO, it’s been a great trip! Tomorrow it’s back to “work”… Ha ha ha! (I love calling it that! It soooooooo never feels like work!)
PS. The new mayor of DC (Adrian Something-or-other) MUST be a cool guy! His parents own the local FLEET FEET - a triathlon specialty store! With all the runners around, no wonder they voted him in!!

Went out for a little sweat in Suffolk….. needed some fresh air after being in an airconditioned hotel all day. Not sure what to call this workout…. a little power walk, a little jog, some stairs, more stairs…. I guess I’ll go with ‘general cardio’.
Po-tay-toe, Po-tahh-toe…. It felt really good. Something is blooming here. It smells lovely and sweet!

The magazine rack at the Y was curiously void of all brain candy today. (ie People, USMagazine, Entertainment Weekly, etc…) So I grabbed Time. I was captivated from cover to cover. There were just about enough good articles to last the entire hour ride! I feel healthy AND in touch with the world. ;-) What a bonus!
I was a little grossed out though… I dropped a few beads of sweat on the pages and they soaked in before I could wipe them with the towel… Do you think putting the mag back in the rack is a good idea? How many other sweaters have leaked on the news?? Hmmmm…. I have never thought about this before.

Meant to swim today….. Had the swim trunks on at 6am…. Had ice cream with caramel yesterday…. Felt squishy and fat today… Wasn’t excited about going to the pool or being in my swim trunks….. Got a call from a client…… Started a day of ‘distractions’ and diversions…… It’s now almost midnight……. Calling it a ‘day off’. Tomorrow I’ll start with an intention card…… Things will look up!
