Is it just a coincidence that BOTH our Timex Ironman Watches with HR Monitor function Self-Desctruct within 1 day of each other?? Somehow, water leaked in to BOTH of them…and they are now toast.
Here’s the funny part…… A ‘feature’ of the Timex Ironman Watch is that you can time LAPS. In fact, mine says you can time many, many laps. And since it’s an “Ironman” brand watch, I assumed that you can time laps for any of the three Ironman disciplines: swim, bike and run.
Silly me.
It turns out… that you’re not reeeeally supposed to use the lap function in the water. My hubster went to get a new watch (as he can’t go without)…and lo and behold! The instructions on his new Timex Ironman Watch clearly state:
“WARNING: TO MAINTAIN WATER-RESISTANCE, DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTONS UNDER WATER.”
How is one supposed to count time/laps while training for the swim when one is not supposed to press buttons under water????
O the value of reading the fine print!!!!
Be forewarned.

It’s back…… College Football season. I’ll see my hunny in about 3 months……. Ugh. As a Canadian ex-pat, I just don’t get it.
At any rate, ‘Go Huskies!’

As a training tool, I decided to ride this whole trip in my big chain ring. No matter what the terrain, my goal was to stay in the hardest 3-4 gears.
So, my legs are a little tired… but I can see how it could be a useful shake up to my rides……

Ooops. I got lost on my run last night. I’m in a new city and was craving a run. The hotel people sent me on a route they said was ‘really hilly’. (It was!) My plan was to do an out-and-back so I could retrace my steps. Unfortunately, the streets look different after the sun goes down. Hmm, who knew? I ended up doing about 1.5 miles more than anticipated.
The upside is that after the sun went down, I got to run with fireflies! We don’t have fireflies where I live so this was a treat! (Oh, and I stopped at a fire hall to get directions back to my hotel. The firemen were very nice, but I’m sure they got a chuckle out of my lostness.)
Life is an adventure. Get out there and run!

Wow…… once again, I am humbled by pilates. The real stuff, with the mats and the reformer contraption. I KNOW it’s working me in places I’ve not worked in a long time - if ever! I may be an Ironman, but that means nothing in the pilates world. Must go back for more……

Ahhh, to be home in the land of the Canuck! Tim Horton’s coffee is the best. I’ve barely been above the 49th parallel for 24 hours and I’ve already downed 4 cups of ‘to-go-large-coffee-double-cream’. Just stick an intravenous tube in me and I’ll mainline it.
Goooood stuff!

An open water swim this morning? ‘Sure’, I said!
This sounded like a grand idea to keep moving after RSVP - but to give my legs a rest. I forgot how much work my upper body does while I’m riding. Phewf! By 3/4 mile in the lake, my arms were tiiiired.
I’m glad I planned ahead for a massage today! If you live on the east side of Lake Washington, go see Anelody Tice at the Anderson Natural Health Clinic. She is a massage genius!!

We did it! The 2008 RSVP (Ride from Seattle to Vancouver (Canada) and Party!) was a huge success!! 1300+ riders (I was #3!), and 186 miles later…we were bottoms up (in so many ways).
I was worried that my back wouldn’t hold up however, all systems were go! I didn’t even get a flat. Our family doc (Go Ross!) was in our pace line so I knew that I’d be taken care of if anything glitched. Happily, I felt like I could go farther! Yeah!
Mitch (my spousal unit) is the Ride Director - so I know how much work goes into this event. His team was at their best. Mother Nature cooperated, the volunteers were brilliant, and the US border agents were only moderately jerky coming home.
All in all, a fine accomplishment! It’s clear why this event sells out before the end of January!
Thanks, Cascade Bike Club!!!
