Harriet the Spy Run

During the winter, we often end up running in the dark.  Usually, it’s in the morning which ends up being totally dull because most people aren’t even out of bed yet.

Evening runs are an entirely different experience though.  People are home.  Their lights are on.  And quite often, their curtains are open.

I don’t mean to look inside.  But it’s so often unavoidable.  :-)   So night runs are  much more interesting!!  It reminds me of a favorite book from my childhood: Harriet the Spy (one of the only books in my lifetime that I’ve read 4 times.)   Harriet would ‘report’ on the happenings of her neighborhood…using her creative license to fill in the gaps of the stories of their lives.     I wonder what she’d write about the 2 houses that still have their Christmas trees up??

New tax land-speed record!

I have broken all my past PR’s - and I bet a few land-speed records too! I am officially READY to do my taxes!! (Okay, to be clear… I’m ready to have my genius CFO do my taxes FOR ME! :-)) I have all my business ducks in a row. I’ve updated all my mileage reports and receipt files. AND they are not even in a shoebox! They are input into a computer system and reconciled!!

It really IS a miracle!!

So, CFO?  When can we meet?  :-)

Desparate situations call for desparate measures

Uncle Hal’s plan called for 4×1600m at 1mile pace. There’s no way I could hammer this out without my tunes but, alas!  PANIC! I can’t find my ipod.   Hubster saves the day and offers up his. (Awwww! Chivalry lives!) The trouble is, at the smallest hiccup his earphones fall out of my ears. (Something about ’small ear holes’??) Anyway, I was not deterred!
Inspired by the pros on the Tour de France, I pulled out the medical tape and taped the earbuds to my ears. I looked like a huge dork, but it worked! The run was awesome!
Thanks Hubster! I’ll replace the fuzzy things that were ruined by the tape before you get home. :-)

Yipes. Only 3 weeks left.

Just realized there are only 3 weeks left until the Vancouver 1st Half.   I’m not sure how I feel about this plan of Uncle Hal’s.   There doesn’t look like much taper time.  Hmm… I’m a big fan of tapering.   We shall see.

You know hockey’s hit the big time….

Or maybe I should ask, When did hockey hit the big time?  I just caught the pre-show for the NHL All-Star game which included a Cirque-du-Soleil extravaganza. Yes, nothing says ‘let’s play hockey’ like people in unhuman-like contortions floating above the ice on ribbons and rings, fancy violinists, skin-tight leotards and flashy spotlights.

You can take a Canadian girl out of the rink, but you just can’t take the rink out of the Canadian girl. I am a Cirque junkie, but this pairing is just…well… wrong.

A Canadian girl watching an Irish band…

..play at the Lincoln Memorial to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States of America.

It is a recipe for being moved beyond measure.

I am reminded that while I may not be a citizen of the United States, I am a citizen of the world.  I am reminded to pay attention. I am reminded…

Be willing to be moved.
