Chocolate Covered Aleve??

Balboa Park smells soooooo good! I think it’s eucalyptus??? No wonder this is a hot-bed for new-agey lotions and potions. They grow the goods in their back yard.

I chose Route Purple #4 today. Though it was shorter than yesterday, it feels harder. Lots of long, slogging up-hills with a super-steep last bit. And, I can sure feel two days in a row of running in my hip. I’ll be snacking on Aleve tonight. (Can we get it chocolate covered, please?)

I was hungry after the run so I stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up grub for dinner. Bad idea. Never go shopping when you’re hungry. I mowed down a HUGE rice crispy square. Totally unnecessary. Can I have a do-over?

Balboa Park Red #5

Balboa Park has to be one of the coolest places to run in the country.  It has trails for every taste bud and the climate to squelch any lame excuse for not getting out there.   Plus, if you’re up for a little wild-life, the Zoo is right there.

Today I did trail Red, #5.  Tomorrow I might try Purple, #4.

The Best Fish Taco - ever!

Work landed me in San Diego this week - the land of the killer Fish Taco. I ate a light brekkie and was jonesin’ for a fish taco lunch. I scoped out the options in Old Town and stumbled on a new restaurant (so new, they didn’t even have their sign up yet)… but Dad was playing some Mexican Tunes on his guitar so that was open enough for me. I ordered two fish tacos from the A la Carte menu… (who really needs the beans and rice anyway…)… and, Holy Picante!!
They were the BEST FISH TACOS….ever!! Poached fish with fresh veggies and the tastiest sauce on a home-made tortilla!! It wasn’t a tonne of food, but it was fresh and TOTALLY FILLING!! I was so full that I couldn’t do the run I’d planned before the sun went down.

If you’re in SD, check it out: El Patio de Old Town…(in the little plaza kitty-corner to the big Catholic church, across from the Ice Cream place.)

I eventually hit the hotel workout room for a plow on the dreadmill - after the gastronomical fiesta died down.

Worth every bite.

Light headed

Met with Chip (and E) at Oh-Dark-Thirty yesterday & today. I can’t bear the thought of ‘eating’ right before working out…so both workouts were on an empty stomache. Today I felt it. Light headed and a little woozy. The neat thing is that once I get going, I can tell that my body is metabolizing fat because I no longer have that ‘hungry’ feeling.

Had a yummy shake when I got home though…. vanilla, protein & blueberries. Food of champions.

Wet shoes

My runners were still wet from the Gusher. I was soooo tempted to break out the shiney new shoes for my run today. But I just couldn’t do it. The thought of them getting muddy was just too much. ;-)

So wet shoes it was.

A Gusher…and Medical Pick Up

There’s something about running in the rain that makes me smile. This morning’s run was perfect in every way. Warm. Quiet. Legs and lungs felt amazing. Even the rain was a lovely addition. It was pouring a gusher. My shoes got sloshy, my shirt was soaked. And yet, I felt completely refreshed. Finished the hilly MLT run in a respectable time.

I must have been in ‘the zone’ because I didn’t even realize that I had ditched the hubster half-way in. I turned around and saw him as we crossed at the light. He was only a few feet back….. I peeked as I rounded the corner onto 236th and was positive I saw him making his way.

Apparently not. Oops.

I hit the finish line and waited…and waited…. Then I got a little worried so I started back-tracking…. more back-tracking… Finally found him walking.

Turns out his gastroc seized up just after the light - so he’d been walking the last 2 miles, at least. Oops. He needed to be picked up. But he had the keys.

So I took the keys and hoofed it back to the car. Medical pick up on its way.

My own little Turkey Trot

To celebrate Thanksgiving in my home country, I did my own little Turkey Trot.  And ‘trot’ it was… a slooow, easy run along the trail.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!  What are you thankful for?

Gobble. Gobble.

Giving A.R.T. a go

Got the name of a local provider of Active Release Therapy.  I’ve heard great things from many folks that it is the cat’s meow… Hopefully this ART guy is as talented as he toots himself.

Pity Party

What are the symptoms of arthritis in the hip? The acheys I’m feeling are probably remnants of back issues…. but geez-louise…. I’d love a workout without the soreness.

Bike Fit with Matt Hill in Seattle

Two thumbs up for my bike fit with Matt Hill. Trek (Corporate) recommended him as ‘the go-to guy’ for fitting in Seattle. He was professional, knowledgable, and efficient. Now, to decide on components…. with the great weather, it would be cool to get my new bike soon!

(This post is the sum of time with/on chip this week… add in some sprint intervals on the dreadmill after each bout… )
