Don’t you just LOOOOOOOVE getting new runners? It’s a treat! My new Saucony Grid’s feel like yummy marshmallows adding a sweet spring to my step! There is NOTHING like the first run on a new pair! I purchased new socks too!   It’s a good day!

Purge the closet!

Every six months, my good friend Erinn comes over to bestow her version of ‘tough love’. (Okay, so I ask her to come…. however, I think she gets some sick sense of fun from it all…)  She leads the ceremonious ‘changing of the closets’ from winter to summer…. (and later, summer to winter.) Part of the ceremony is ‘giving away’ several bags of clothes that I have not worn or that no longer fit me perfectly.
It is amazing how much ’stuff’ we hang on to…….. posterity, comfort, habit…… lots of reasons.  Every six months I find myself arguing with Erinn for why I want to keep the pink camoflage capris  and the Mickey Mouse jeans I got in college (DECADES ago!)  (This year she physically took the Mickey jeans with her so I don’t fish them out of the give-away bag.)

And yet, there is something so cleansing and freeing about a freshly cleaned closet -letting go of the past to open doors and space for good things in the future.

Feels so good! Thanks E! You rock!

Ms. Grouchy Pants

Grrr…..  I ended up doing the elliptical today while I stared down the guy who was hogging the spin bike.   My usual bright and sunny disposition went behind the clouds.   The signs all say there is a 30 minute limit.   I really wouldn’t mind if the guy spent the whole day on the bike - except that there were other people waiting and there are only two spin bikes.   When others are waiting, it’s just rude to hog the bike.

The guy finally got off (and, in his defense, did a bang-up job of cleaning his sweat off the bike and the mat).   I squeezed in a quick 20 minute ride to top off the elliptical.

Perhaps I need some sun to perk me up?   I’m doing the Sun Dance so I can ride outside tomorrow!  Yeah!

What to call this?

Went out for a little sweat in Suffolk….. needed some fresh air after being in an airconditioned hotel all day.  Not sure what to call this workout….  a little power walk, a little jog, some stairs, more stairs….   I guess I’ll go with ‘general cardio’.

Po-tay-toe, Po-tahh-toe….  It felt really good.    Something is blooming here.   It smells lovely and sweet!

Scavenger Hunt

If you were in Seattle yesterday, you would have seen a bustle of limosines driving rampantly around town with different colored flags waving proudly.  You would have seen a crazy group of people running in and out of the limo at various locations (the car often parked in precarious spots!)

I’m speaking at a conference this week in downtown Seattle.  The group is an ENERGETIC and fun bunch.    They invited me to join a team for their ‘adventure event’ - Scavenger Hunting around Seattle.    WAHOO!   (Who KNEW Bruce AND Brandon Lee were buried here?  In the same cemetary as Curt Kobain, no less.)

This group knows how to do up a scavenger hunt RIGHT!   While there was definitely some cardio involved, our primary mode du transport was a limosine! with a professional driver!   Oh yeah!  Our team was called the Pirates because our limo had the black (and ominous! flag.)   At each stop we had to take a picture with each of our team members in it.    We found the Jimmi Hendrix statue, the Fishermen’s Monument, the statue of Lenin (and the perennial Rocket in Fremont.)   We got ooged out by the Troll…. and we sang “On top of Spaghetti” at the top of our lungs in the car!   (We were supposed to do it in front of, you guessed it, Ye Old Spaghetti Factory however we ran out of time to hit that stop.)   (Would anyone be shocked to learn that I remembered all the lyrics without the song sheet? Not!) ;-)
The classics were included - Pike Place Fish Market, the Pig, the Firemen in Pioneer Square……..   but there were several stops that I’ve never been….(and I’ve lived here for 11 years!)

What a GREAT way to see the city!!!  Especially since its my OWN!!!

I’m all for good oral hygiene…

In fact, I’m a big fan!   Perhaps that is why I may be prone to noticing these things?    On my way to drop off Ruby Suby at the car hospital - I passed a woman at a bus stop flossing her teeth.   Now, I know how frustrating it can be to have something stuck in there.  At times I myself have turned my head away to see if I can pry out the culprit bits.   When done discreetly, many people won’t even notice.   However, there was nothing subtle or discreet about this flossing customer of public transit.  It was the full body, elbows up, nose wrinkled, eyes squinting to the sky kind of flossing.

For a moment I thought to myself that perhaps there could be a better time or place for this act of self-care.

But then I thought…….no……….you go sister!  You get right in there!

And then, smile pretty all day!   There is nothing that makes people’s day more than a bright, sincere, shiny smile.   So - you do whatever you need to do to make sure those teeth are pearly white & healthy!

Yay, rest day tomorrow!

Finished off the week with a little elliptical.   I can sure tell when it’s not tri season and all I’m doing is running (and a little strength).   My joints hurt.  I’m tired.

It’s a sure-fire sign it’s time to get back on the bike & in the pool.   Yay for spring!

Nose to my knees

My bod’s got some aches from yesterday’s run so I did a 30 minute warm up - and stretched for another 30!  Stretching is such a luxury!   One of the ‘wish list’ items for my fitness lifetime is to be able to touch my nose to my knees.   Ha ha haaaaaaa!   Currently my nose is about 3 feet away.

A girl can dream……………….

What not to wear…at the gym

Slow night at the gym… so I’m glad they have ‘cardio TV’ hooked up! I caught up on an entire episode of ‘What not to wear!’… Apparently A-line skirts are ‘the’ way to steer the eye away from butts & hips. Good to know! :-)
