Yesterday was the first day of Secular Sabbath in our house. The hubster calls it ‘No Technology Saturdays’ (Hubster’s post). What an eye opener! The day went on forever… I even took a nap. This isn’t so remarkable except that I didn’t feel one pang of guilt for it.
I was prepared to feel laptop withdrawal which showed up right after yoga (when I normally would have posted my workout) and around 3pm… but I had a back up plan for things to do. Among other items, the stack of ‘things to file’ in my office (which has been there for at least 3 months!) is now GONE. (Seriously, this is monumental…)
I have a feeling that even more surprising benefits are in store when we run out of ‘odds and ends’ to clean up or to ’do’. Once these low-hanging fruits are cleaned or fixed or put away, the real juice of these Secular Sabbaths will be in ‘being’.
We are, after all, Human Beings….not Human Doings. (Wow, was that a Zen moment??)
Here’s to being unplugged…..

Either the Aleve kicked in, or my hip went numb….. either way, the last half of the run was so much better! On the first half I was running like a stick figure in a flip-book. A few days ago I posted that my back was acting up again. Still no change but I can’t let that slow me down. I know I’m not ‘hurting’ it by running, so I have to put on my Big Girl Panties and get out there.
Onions to the butt-head in the red van driving around Green Lake. The nasty karma you were spewing WILL come back to you. Mark my words.
Though the warm weather is making it somewhat easier to get around, I am sad the snow is melting away. It has been a fun and festive way to spend the holidays!!

I’m not sure how to classify this workout……… there’s no pie color for ‘hilarity’!! OMG, we were laughing SO HARD…..We tested out Lolly’s new “Wii Fit” games over the weekend. The ‘workouts’, especially for balance, do test your body…….. but moreso, they made me HOWL. I’m sure this counts as an additional ab workout!!
Check out the ‘balance’ workout that has you ‘heading’ soccer balls. Don’t get hit in the face!!!! Ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaa!

I forgot what it’s like to go to the gym between 3-5pm……. It’s teen time. The preening highschool girls and all the feathered boys with their tails held high, making sure they are being seen by the preening girls.
On a normal day, it’s funny. I remember what it was like to be that age.
Today however, I had an ‘am I a prude’ moment. One of the young lads had a tshirt on that said: “Let’s Get Naked.” He might have been 14 if he was a day.
I’d like to think I am liberal…. but this just seemed so off base. This young boy - who barely has hair on his legs - with such a provocative shirt.
Am I missing something?

Hello out there! I have a Timex Ironman watch that is also a heart rate monitor. Everything works well on the unit - except the ‘indiglo’ light has died. Is this something I can get fixed? Would it cost more than just buying a new unit? If it was just a regular IM watch, I wouldn’t be so worried about replacing it. However since it’s got the HR feature and strap, the cost-to-replace would be at least double.
Ideas? Technical support?
Thanks!

Meant to swim today….. Had the swim trunks on at 6am…. Had ice cream with caramel yesterday…. Felt squishy and fat today… Wasn’t excited about going to the pool or being in my swim trunks….. Got a call from a client…… Started a day of ‘distractions’ and diversions…… It’s now almost midnight……. Calling it a ‘day off’. Tomorrow I’ll start with an intention card…… Things will look up!

Check out the day in Vancouverr! www.katkam.ca
The cones are for the runners who will be crossing this bridge in about half an hour. The webcam updates the pic every 5 minutes so if you are running today - check the archives of katkam.ca (scroll down from the picture) for the approximate time you were running across the Burrard St Bridge. You may have had your picture taken!
Run on!

The count-down clocks on my blog have a new function! Counting down the sleeps until we are off to Hawaii! Alooooooooooooooha! It’s ’sort of’ sweat365 related. Our annual pilgrimage to the Ironman-of-all-Ironman courses, our morning runs along Ali’i Drive, our swims in the ocean (with turtles & manta rays, of course)……….will all be logged here. Depending on our decision to do a Half or an Olympic this year, we may even visit our friends at HP Bikeworks and ride a few days.
It reminds me that I’ve also been meaning to log my nap time….(though I’ve not napped since the last time when I decided it should be counted as an exercise.) I wonder if I could also count the minutes I spend sipping fruity drinks? (They are rich in Vitamin C, you know!) Or, would that be logged in ounces?? Hmmmm……………….. Can’t wait!
Mahalo!
